We are Licensed and insured to work in Arches National Park and Canyonlands National Park.

The Moab area is an exceptional region and has some of the most spectacular, photogenic sites on earth.  Your choices of photo tour or workshop locations includes Arches National Park, Canyonlands National Park, the Colorado and Green River basins, Dead Horse Point State Park, arches, petroglyphs, pictographs, ruins and endless stunning rock formations.

We will depart on our photo tour about an hour before sunrise to be set up at our sunrise location before the sun comes up.  The remainder of the 4-hour morning photography session will be spent in Arches, Canyonlands or the surrounding BLM land working on lighting, composition and getting the most from your camera.

We’ll take a break midday and head out again mid-to-late afternoon for another 4-hour photography session that will include sunset shots and possibly a night light-painting session if the weather is favorable.

If we are working under a new moon we will do some night light painting.  If there is enough interest you may choose to work with my Manfrotto pan head shooting some panoramas.

We will work at a pace that is comfortable for everyone.  I will provide transportation from your lodging in town to the photo tour location.

What you will need:

  • A digital SLR camera and its owner’s manual
  • The physical ability to hike at least 20 minutes carrying your gear
  • A tripod
  • Desert-appropriate clothing and sunscreen
  • A small flashlight or headlamp

The cost of this photo tour is $400 per person with a maximum of 5 people.  Checks or cash only.  50% due with registration.  Cancellation due to weather is entirely my decision.  Remember, many of the best photographs happen in changing or inclement weather.

NEW!  –  5 DAY
CEDAR MESA PHOTOGRAPHY WORKSHOP

May 23 - 27, 2010

Cedar Mesa holds some of the most unusual and best-preserved ruins in all the southwest.  Several different clans passed through this area on their long migration and produced dwellings of distinct architectural styles in a relatively small geographic area.  Most of these are Class II sites... there are no signs, no trailheads and they aren't on the maps.  The trick to photographing them is to be there in the right season and at the right time of day.  Being 30 minutes late can mean the difference between a stunning, eye-popping photograph and an average washed out image.  We know the locations and we know the timing.  We can also provide the photo tips to be sure you come home with images you'll want to hanG on your wall!

We'll start in Moab on the 23rd and spend a day photographing in Canyonlands and/or Arches, then head south to Cedar Mesa.  We will depart each day about an hour before sunrise to be set up at our sunrise location before the sun comes up.  The remainder of the 4-hour morning photography session will be spent at Bear Ruin, Cave Tower, Horse Collar, Fallen Ceiling, House Fire and the stunning Moon House Ruin working on lighting, composition and getting the most from your camera. The local authorities have been in discussions for a few years now about closing many of these to the public.

We’ll take a break midday and head out again mid-to-late afternoon for another 4-hour photography session that will include sunset shots and possibly a night light-painting session if the weather is favorable.

The full moon will be on the 27th, so we may do some night shooting the 25th or 26th if people want to be out late.

The cost of this photo tour is $700 per person with a maximum of 5 people.  Lodging and meals are not included.  Lodging is available nearby, I will have some rooms reserved, and remote camping is a possibility, but we will have to work out ways to charge your batteries, etc.  50% Payment is due upon registration.  Checks or cash only.    Cancellation due to weather is entirely my decision.  Remember, many of the best photographs happen in changing or inclement weather.
