Beautiful Boulder, Colorado enjoys a unique location, nestled at 5,340' elevation against the foothills of the Rocky Mountains.  We believe we are the only city in the country to have more acres in parks and open space than in development.  There are miles of trails for running, walking and biking.  It is home to the University of Colorado, NOAA, the National Bureau of Standards (home of the atomic clock), and Chautauqua.  There are countless photo opportunities within the city and its surrounding parks.  Getting the best images is a bit trickier than most places because of unique lighting conditions caused by the altitude and the mountain backdrop.  We know what time of day to get you to a site in all seasons for the best images, as well as how to access some unique locations for unusual views.

Sessions typically depart from whever you are staying one-half to one hour before sunrise to be set up at our sunrise photography location before the sun comes up.  The remainder of the 4-hour morning photo session will be determined by your interests, working on lighting, composition and getting the most from your camera. We'll resume mid-afternoon for another 4-hour session.

If you wish you can spend part of the day working on panoramas using my Manfrotto panorama tripod head.  I provide Photoshop sessions each day where we will process your images and send you home with the files you need to do professional printing.  Or, I can do the printing for you after your departure, have the prints mounted by DuraPlaq and ship them to you.

We will work at a pace that is comfortable for everyone.  I will provide transportation from your lodging in town to the photo tour location.

What you will need:

  • A digital SLR camera and its owner’s manual
  • The physical ability to hike at least 20 minutes carrying your gear
  • A tripod
  • High Altitude-appropriate clothing and sunscreen
  • A small flashlight or headlamp

The cost of this photo tour is $300 per person with a maximum of 4 people.  There is a $35 fee for each additional person (over the first one).  Payment is due in full upon registration.  Checks, Paypal or cash only.  50% non-refundable deposit due with registration.  Cancellation due to weather is entirely my decision.  Remember, many of the best photographs happen in changing or inclement weather.

We are also licensed and insured to work in Rocky Mountain National Park, Canyonlands National Park, Arches National Park and Cedar Mesa in Utah.
