1 or 2 Day Elk Rut Photo Tour

September and October in Rocky Mountain National Park provide photo opportunities with a possibility of snow on the peaks, aspen in their autumn splendor and elk in the valleys in the evening.  Rocky Mountain National Park serves as a premier photography classroom without walls. This spectacular landscape encompasses montane meadows, subalpine forests and alpine tundra, rising from trout-filled streams and glacier-carved valleys to the summit of Longs Peak at 14,259 feet.

Beginning in 2016 this session will be scheduled as requested for private tours.  The season for the elk rut runs approximately September 15 - October 30.  We will depart on your photo tour each day from Estes Park about an hour before sunrise to be set up at our sunrise photography location before the sun comes up.  We'll work straight through until a lunch break and spend the afternoon in a 1 - 2-hour Photoshop session.

We will work at a pace that is comfortable for everyone.  I will provide transportation from your lodging in town to the photo tour location.

I provide Photoshop sessions each day where we will process your images and send you home with the files you need to do professional printing.  Or, I can do the printing for you after your departure, have the prints mounted by DuraPlaq and ship them to you.

What you will need:

  • A digital SLR camera and its owner’s manual
  • The physical ability to hike at least 20 minutes carrying your gear
  • A tripod
  • High Altitude-appropriate clothing and sunscreen
  • A small flashlight or headlamp

The cost of this photo tour is $400 per person for 1 day, $750 for 2 days.  $65 per day for each additional person.  Fee does not include lodging or meals.   50% non-refundable deposit due with registration.  Cancellation due to weather is entirely my decision.  Remember, many of the best photographs happen in changing or inclement weather.
